Nanoha Innocents Chapters 16/17

And here we are...

It's, uh, actually done? I'm kind of in shock myself. I thought I'd celebrate by writing a few of my thoughts on the series and working on it, so feel free to ignore the rest of this post if you don't care.

Nanoha Innocent was my first try at this whole manga scanlation thing, way back in 2015, when the original Vivid anime was airing. Watching it got me reignited my whole Nanoha kick and stuff, so I ended up reading what was currently translated of the Innocent manga, which had stopped at the end of volume two and seemed to be stalled out. Trying to find anything else about what happened on the series really only drew up that one picture of the Materials in adult form and nothing else. So, on a bit of a whim, I decided to go through and skim the raws to see what happened. I think the thing that really sold me on the series was seeing the end of the volume, where mini Subaru and mini Teana showed up, and how surprised I was at that. I wanted to see how other people reacted to that and figured that hey, I knew enough Japanese to read this series, so why not try doing it myself? In retrospect, I really didn't know as much as I should have (and maybe still don't now either). I definitely didn't know how to do anything else involved, either, which resulted in the first few releases looking really sloppy and out of place, but I ended up starting work on this.

I guess I can't talk about my experiences with this without mentioning how ridiculous the wait between chapters ended up getting. When volume two of Innocents released in Japan, I was just about finished with the first series, only two volumes behind. Now, it's been two years since the whole manga ended. I'd like to claim that it was due to life getting in the way, and that is part of it, but most of it was just a lack of motivation for various reasons. Still, it all got done in the end, so hooray?

At this point it's getting kind of long and I really don't know what else to say and I'm sure you're all tired of reading my thoughts, so let me just, uh, thank everybody for reading? It's definitely the desire to see everybody reacting to the chapter and voicing their thoughts on it that made me stick with it and not just leave the blog dead after a few months. And special thanks to Vivid Translations and all the other people that gave me advice with typesetting and how to do this in general when I was starting out.

Uh... leave your thoughts below? I may have one more thing related to Nanoha Innocent up my sleeve, but haha of course it's going to take some time.

  1. Thanks a lot. And don't worry, it isn't a sin to be slow. I'd say that in fansubs/scanlations the saying "better late than never" holds. It's not like an official release or anything happened, is it.

So once more, thanks a lot for your work. I'd say only people who tasted how much work these things can be can really appreciate the "gift" that these fan-made scanlations/fansubs/etc are, but still, it's much appreciated, or at least deserves to be.

And I enjoyed your release, even if I have my reservations to some parts of these mangas (hint: materials...). Every Nanoha thing is a treat.
